Forensic Medicine
Overview
The department started functioning in 1987 with the start of MBBS course. P.G. Degree course started in 2011. The department accorded the permission by State Government for conducting independent Medico-legal Autopsies at BLDE A’s Shri B.M.Patil Medical College, Hospital and Research Center in 1996.
Since 2006, Department has been providing consultancy and expert opinion for Medico-legal cases in and around Vijayapur and Bagalkot districts.
Department of Forensic Medicine
The department has been providing services through Poison Information and Detection Centre since 2013. B.Sc Forensic science and Mortuary technician course are the other few courses run by the department.
Vision And Mission
To improve the knowledge & skill as to the Medico-legal practice in future to the medical graduates.
To create awareness as to the recent advances in Medical & Medico-legal practice to the Medical practitioners.
To create awareness as to the amendments in the law related to medical field.
To assist the investigating officers/prosecution for the delivery of justice by providing unbiased, fact based scientific opinions or Medico-legal reports.
To train the Post graduates for skills of Medico-legal autopsy so that they in future will be asset to create better Medico-legal experts.
To train Post graduates in dealing with Clinical Forensic Medicine cases like Accused / Victim of alleged rape, Drunkenness, Age estimation, Wound certification and their legal implications.
Exposure of Post graduate students to court scenario, teaching them trial in the court of law, there by imparting knowledge as to importance of various Medico-legal documents.
