Overview

The Department of Pharmacology Shri B.M Patil Medical College, Vijayapura was established in Oct. 1987. The Department of pharmacology is committed to achieve and strive for excellence in teaching, learning and research. The faculty members of the department are actively engaged in teaching II MBBS, and Allied Health Sciences (BPT, CCT, B.Sc Nursing, etc) students. Apart from didactic lectures, teaching involves small group’s discussion, seminars, self- directed learning and role play.

Department has conducted “Good Clinical Practice” for Ethical committee members and potential principal Investigators for Clinical Trials.

Pharmacovigilance Unit is set up in the Hospital which regularly monitors and report adverse drug events.

Department celebrates “Pharmacovigilance week” every year from 17th September to 23rd September with vibrant activities.

Departmental staff members are involved in day to day hospital activities like Prescription Auditing & Antibiotic Stewardship.

HOD Pharmacology is member secretary of Institution Ethics committee (IEC) and is involved in various IEC related activities.

Department of Pharmacology is dedicated to advancing drug discovery and translational research through innovative methodologies that bridge laboratory findings with clinical practice. At BLDE(DU) Shri.B.M. Our well‑maintained Animal House, registered with CPCSEA since 2018, provides a secure, ethically regulated environment for essential animal studies, while our CAL Lab leverages digital simulation to bridge theory and practice. A dedicated Library and Pharmacology Museum offer invaluable resources and visual insights into the evolution of pharmacology. Additionally, our cutting‑edge Research and Mannequin Labs equip students with hands‑on experience in drug evaluation and clinical simulation, ensuring they are well-prepared for future challenges in the field.

To Provide basic animal research and education to undergraduate, post graduate students, Ph.D scholars and to undertake collative projects.

Activities

Department of Pharmacology actively enhances learning and research through regular GCP workshops and guest lectures for UG, PG, and Ph.D. scholars. The department promotes drug safety with robust Pharmacovigilance initiatives, including National Pharmacovigilance Week, and supports humanitarian efforts through partnerships with the Red Cross. It also celebrates World Environment Day and employs innovative tools like Pharmacology Quizzes and OSPE to foster competency-based learning.
