To Provide basic animal research and education to undergraduate, post graduate students, Ph.D scholars and to undertake collative projects – department of Pharmacology BLDE(DU) Shri.B.M Patil Medical College Hospital & Research Centre, Vijayapura has established a start of art well maintained Central animal house facility.It is registered under the Committee for the Control and supervision of experiments on animal (CCSEA) , ministry of environment and forests Government of India with the registration number113/PO/ReBi/S/99/CPCSEA dated 06/AUG/2018 It permits Human, Ethical and Judicious use of animals in research which plays to pivotal role in the development of basic research. The animal research plays crucial role in improving human and animal lives.
Laboratory based practical classes , have been the corner stone of undergraduate pharmacology . Ethical issues with the use of animal and rapid development of information technology has led to newer trends in teaching and learning such as computer Assisted learning(CAL). Department of pharmacology of BLDE(DU) Shri.B.M Patil Medical College Hospital & Research Centre, Vijayapura has established state of art CAL laboratory using software consisting of collection of experiments that encourage students to understand concept in pharmacology. It provides important advantage to both students and teachers to meet the learning objectives. It is a feasible and very effective teaching and learning method in pharmacology.
In order to provide faculty members UG/PG students, Ph- D scholars up to date information about the latest development in the subject of pharmacology, BLDE(DU) Shri.B.M Patil Medical College Hospital & Research Centre, Vijayapura has established Departmental Library. It plays a significant role in addressing the information needs of faculty members , UG/PG students and Ph.D scholars of Pharmacology. It has collection of 186, pharmacology books and 2 national and 2 international pharmacology journals. It plays crucial role in ensuring access to the latest research evidence based practice and information recourses.
BLDE(DU) Shri.B.M Patil Medical College has prioritized investment in department library infrastructure including personels, physical facilities, collection and information technology.
In order to accelerate the understanding the subject of pharmacology, Department of pharmacology BLDE(DU) Shri.B.M Patil Medical College Hospital & Research Centre, has established pharmacology museum. Museum displays various drugs acting on different body systems, various academic charts. Contributions of Indian and other scientists in field of pharmacology are also displayed. It provides a good opportunity to the students for excellent orientation to the subject of pharmacology.
Research Laboratory of pharmacology Department is equipped with instruments for evaluating activity of various drugs. It helps in studying relationship between drugs and biological systems which plays a crucial role in drug discovery and development. It helps in understanding how cellular targets respond to drug which is essential for use of drugs in clinical practice.
Mannequine based simulation has been established in the department of pharmacology. It provides the methodology and theoretical basis for teaching clinically relevant Pharmacology using lecture based learning with mannequin based simulation. Such contextual learning has been helping to instill in important professional concepts and develop clinical skills in a low risk, safe environment. Not only the students learn differently but they also retain the information more effectively. It helps the students to bridge the theory – practical gap. The students evaluations are highly positive indicating assimilation of learning from both lecture and simulation.
