The Department of Ophthalmology, BLDE (Deemed to be University), Shri B. M. Patil Medical College, Hospital & Research Centre, observed National Eye Donation Fortnight from 25 August to 8 September 2026 with a series of awareness initiatives aimed at encouraging eye donation and educating the community about its importance.
As part of the campaign, an Eye Donation Pledge Desk was set up in the hospital lobby, where junior doctors interacted with visitors and encouraged them to pledge their eyes through the state portal, jeevanasarthakathe.com. A total of 245 people pledged their eyes during the campaign. Eye donation awareness information was also displayed across the campus through E-Boards, while awareness flyers were placed at prominent locations including the hospital entrance, Ophthalmology OPD, and reception area.
A radio awareness talk was delivered by Dr. Keerti Wali, Assistant Professor, Department of Ophthalmology, on 26 August 2026, from 9:00 AM to 9:30 AM. The department also conducted awareness talks at educational institutions, including BLDE Association’s S.B. Arts & K.C.P. Science College, Vijayapura, where Dr. Ramya Karjol delivered a talk on 3 September; A.S. Patil College of Commerce (BLDEA), Vijayapura, where Dr. Suman Devarmani addressed students on 4 September; and Shri H. T. Kulkarni Shishyara Balaga, Sindagi, on 6 September 2026.
Adding a creative dimension to the campaign, a Rangoli on Eye Donation Awareness was created at the hospital entrance on 31 August 2026, using art as an engaging medium to spread the message of eye donation.
These initiatives collectively helped strengthen awareness and encouraged individuals to contribute towards restoring the gift of sight through eye donation.
