The Department of Emergency Medicine at BLDE (Deemed to be University) was established in April 2019 with the mission to provide immediate, life-saving care and serve as the first point of contact for critically ill patients. With the Letter of Permission (LOP) for 3 postgraduate seats granted in December 2019, the academic journey commenced in June 2020 with the first batch of postgraduate students. Further strengthening its academic foundation, a Ph.D. program was introduced in December 2020.

It features point-of-care testing facilities to ensure rapid diagnostics and timely interventions. Since its inception in 2019, the Department of Emergency Medicine has achieved significant academic and clinical milestones. It was granted Letter of Permission (LOP) for three postgraduate seats within the same year, with the first batch commencing in June 2020. The department further advanced academically by introducing a Ph.D. program in December 2020, making it one of the few in the region to offer doctoral-level training in emergency care. Clinically, the department has become a cornerstone for 24/7 emergency services, earning recognition for its prompt, life-saving interventions and comprehensive emergency care delivery.
The Department of Emergency Medicine actively engages in a range of academic, clinical, and community-based activities. Regular training sessions, mock drills, and workshops on Basic and Advanced Life Support are conducted for medical staff and students to enhance emergency preparedness.
