The Department of Radiodiagnosis at BLDE (Deemed to be University) was established in 1987, laying the foundation for advanced diagnostic imaging services and academic excellence. Initially nurtured under the leadership of Dr. Ranade (Principal), Dr. C. R. Bidri (Dean), and the expert guidance of Dr. L. B. Sholapurkar (1988–1995), the department steadily grew in stature. From 1996 to 2001, it was successfully led by Dr. M. M. Patil, further strengthening its clinical and teaching capabilities.
Currently, the department is under the dynamic leadership of Dr. Satish D. Patil, who, along with a team of dedicated and skilled faculty and staff, continues to uphold the department’s legacy of academic integrity, compassionate care, and technological advancement.

The Department of Radiodiagnosis at BLDE (Deemed to be University) is equipped with state-of-the-art imaging facilities that provide comprehensive diagnostic services. Our department offers advanced imaging modalities including Digital X-ray, Mammography, Ultrasound, CT Scan, and MRI, along with specialized procedures such as Barium Studies and Intravenous Pyelography (IVP). These facilities support accurate and timely diagnosis across all clinical departments.
In addition to clinical services, the department is deeply committed to academic excellence. Regular orientation programs on the “Basics of Radiology” are conducted for incoming postgraduate students, guided by experienced faculty like Dr. Ravikumar Yeli and Dr. Rajashekar Muchchandi. Integrated Teaching Programmes are a hallmark of our department, fostering interdisciplinary learning in collaboration with departments such as Medicine, Surgery, Anatomy, and Obstetrics & Gynaecology. Topics like “Solitary Pulmonary Nodule,” “Carotid and Vertebral Angiography,” and “Obstetric Doppler” are explored in depth to provide holistic clinical understanding, ensuring that students are well-prepared for both academic and practical challenges in radiology.

The Department of Radiology takes immense pride in its academic excellence and student accomplishments. Dr. Arjun Kamath H was awarded First Prize in Poster Presentation at the 73rd Annual Conference of IRIA 2020 and Asian Radiology Forum held in Gandhinagar, Gujarat. At the AFUMB 2022 Conference, Dr. Saad Mustafa secured Second Prize for his insightful presentation on “Paratesticular Rhabdomyosarcoma presenting as a scrotal swelling in an adolescent.”
Dr. Shraddha Patil, a postgraduate in Radiology, brought distinction to the department by winning the Gold Medal in the PG University Examination 2023. Continuing the legacy of excellence, Dr. Jayanth received First Prize in Paper Presentation at the 38th Karnataka State Conference of IRIA 2023, while Dr. Vaishnavi Reddy B clinched First Prize in Poster Presentation at the same event hosted in Vijayapura. These achievements reflect the department’s strong academic foundation and commitment to nurturing radiological talent.
The Department of Radiodiagnosis at BLDE (Deemed to be University), Vijayapura, has actively contributed to academic excellence and professional development through its remarkable initiatives. A major highlight was the organization of the 38th Annual Karnataka State Conference of IRIA, held from 8th to 10th December 2023 in Vijayapura. Led by organizing chairpersons Dr. Rajshekar Muchchandi and Dr. P. B. Shetty, along with secretaries Dr. Shivanand Patil and Dr. Ravi N, the event was inaugurated by esteemed dignitaries Dr. M. B. Patil, Dr. Y. M. Jayraj, and Dr. R. S. Mudhol.
As part of the conference, a Fetal Medicine Workshop was organized to nurture young talents in radiology. A significant milestone was achieved with the first-ever CME for Radiology Radiographers in India, attended by over 150 radiographers, setting a new benchmark in radiological education. The conference also saw participation from over 30 leading companies, showcasing cutting-edge radiological technologies.
Adding to the momentous occasion, a Lifetime Achievement Award was conferred upon Dr. M. M. Patil for his exemplary contributions to the field. The department also celebrated Roentgen Day on 8th November 2023, commemorating the discovery of X-rays and honoring the advancements in diagnostic imaging. These activities reflect the department’s commitment to excellence in academic engagement, professional growth, and innovation in radiology.
