Overview

The biomedical waste management policy followed at SBMPMC&RC is as per the Biomedical Waste Management Rules 2016, notified by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Government of India as per the gazette notification dated 28th March 2016

As per the act passed by the Ministry of Environment and Forests in 1986 & notified the Bio-Medical Waste (Management and Handling) Rules in July 1998, it is the duty of every Occupier “, to take all steps to ensure that waste generated is handled without any adverse effect to human health and environment.

Our Vision

To create a safe, sustainable, and environmentally responsible healthcare ecosystem through effective biomedical waste management practices that protect human health, prevent environmental contamination, and promote a culture of safety and compliance.

Our Mission

To ensure the segregation, collection, treatment, and disposal of biomedical waste in accordance with the Biomedical Waste Management Rules, 2016, while fostering awareness, accountability, and continuous training among healthcare professionals.

Monthly Reports

The Biomedical Waste Management Committee prepares and maintains monthly reports to monitor compliance with the Biomedical Waste Management Rules. These reports provide detailed information on waste generation, segregation, treatment, disposal practices, and training activities conducted throughout the year. Annual reporting ensures transparency, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement in environmental and healthcare safety standards.

Steps of Biomedical Waste Management

The Biomedical Waste Management process follows a systematic approach to ensure the safe handling and disposal of healthcare waste. Waste segregation is carried out at the point of generation using clearly displayed guidelines and color-coded containers. The segregated waste is then collected in designated color-coded bags, bins, and containers according to its category. Subsequently, the waste is transported safely from the generation site to the central storage area following prescribed safety protocols. Finally, the waste undergoes scientific treatment and disposal in compliance with the Biomedical Waste Management Rules, ensuring protection of human health and the environment.

Segregation of Waste

Biomedical waste is segregated at the point of generation using clearly marked color-coded bins to ensure safe and compliant waste handling.

Safe Transportation

Segregated waste is transported securely from various departments to the central storage area following established safety protocols.

Color-Coded Collection

Waste is collected in designated color-coded bags and containers, enabling efficient categorization and preventing cross-contamination.

Scientific Disposal

Biomedical waste is treated and disposed of through authorized methods in accordance with Biomedical Waste Management Rules, ensuring protection of public health and the environment.

Annual Reports

The Biomedical Waste Management Committee prepares and maintains annual reports to monitor compliance with the Biomedical Waste Management Rules. These reports provide detailed information on waste generation, segregation, treatment, disposal practices, and training activities conducted throughout the year. Annual reporting ensures transparency, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement in environmental and healthcare safety standards.
