On the occasion of World Hospice and Palliative Care Day 2026, a webinar was conducted by the Department of Geriatrics, BLDE (DU), Shri B. M. Patil Medical College Hospital and Research Centre, Vijayapura, on the topic “Hospice Care- For Whom, How and When” on 14/10/2026 at 8:00 PM.

The program commenced with a warm welcome to the esteemed speaker, chairpersons and all attendees by Dr. Anand P. Ambali, Professor and Head, Department of Geriatrics, BLDE (DU).

Dr. P. S. Shankar, Patron of the Geriatric Society of India and senior-most physician, and

Dr. Sangram Biradar, Chairman of Indian college of Physicians, Karnataka Chapter delivered the Welcome Address and their insights on Hospice Care.

Dr. Dennis Mathew Abraham, Consultant, Karunashraya Hospital, Bengaluru, delivered a talk on various aspects of “Hospice Care- For Whom, How and When”.

Dr. Sahadev, MD Internal Medicine, Consultant Physician at Holycross Hospital, Chikmagaluru, and Dr. M. Pavan Kumar, Professor and Head of the Department of General Medicine at Government Medical College, Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Telangana; Vice Chairman, API–Warangal; and Governing Body Member, National Association of Physicians of India, chaired the session.

Dr. O. P. Sharma, Consultant Physician and Geriatrician, General Secretary, GSI, delivered his concluding remarks by sharing his valuable insights on Hospice Care.

Dr. Suma Rathod, Assistant Professor, Dept. of Geriatrics, BLDE, delivered vote of thanks to the speaker, chairpersons, organisers, participants and the IT department. for their valuable contributions.
