Department of Geriatrics Participates in International Day for Older Persons 2026 Celebration

Dr. Anand P. Ambali, Head of the Department of Geriatrics, BLDE (Deemed to be University), Shri B. M. Patil Medical College, Hospital & Research Centre, Vijayapura, was invited as a guest speaker at the programme commemorating the International Day for Older Persons 2026, held on 1st October 2026 at the Zilla Parishad Meeting Hall, Vijayapura. The programme was jointly organized by the Department for the Empowerment of Differently Abled Persons and Senior Citizens and the Department of Women and Child Welfare, Government of Karnataka, Vijayapura District, at 10:30 AM.

During the programme, Dr. Anand P. Ambali highlighted the various healthcare services available for senior citizens at the hospital through the Department of Geriatrics. He emphasized the need to establish a structured support system for older adults living alone and those with disabilities, ensuring that they receive timely assistance, care, and support. He also called upon Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) to come together and collaborate in developing a coordinated system to address the needs of these vulnerable groups.

A total of 150 senior citizens participated in the programme, which provided a platform to highlight the importance of senior citizens’ welfare, healthcare access, social support, and community participation.
