Department of Pediatrics Hosts PRERNI 4th National Research Collaborative Meet

The Department of Pediatrics, Shri B. M. Patil Medical College, Hospital & Research Centre, BLDE (Deemed to be University), successfully organized the Pediatric Resuscitation and Emergency Research Network India (PRERNI) – 4th National Research Collaborative Meet on 4th July 2026 at the Medical Education Hall. The academic event brought together leading pediatricians, researchers, and faculty members from premier medical institutions across the country to foster collaborative research in pediatric emergency medicine and resuscitation.

The programme was graced by distinguished dignitaries including Dr. Y. M. Jayaraj, Pro-Chancellor, BLDE (DU), Dr. Tejashwini Vallabha, Principal, Dr. S. N. Bentoor, Medical Superintendent, Dr. S. V. Patil, Dean – Allied Health Sciences, Dr. Vijayakumar Kalyanappagol, Medical Director & Senior Vice Principal, Dr. M. M. Patil, Professor & Head, Department of Pediatrics, Dr. S. S. Kalyanshettar, President, IAP Vijayapura, Dr. Atul Thobbi, and PRERNI Executive Committee members. Eminent pediatric experts including Dr. Indumathi Santhanam (Chennai), Dr. Bharath (AIIMS Jodhpur), Dr. Mounika Reddy (AIIMS Bibinagar), and Dr. Suresh Angurana (PGI Chandigarh) joined the meeting virtually, enriching the scientific discussions.

The Department of Paediatrics, in collaboration with the Department of Cardiology, successfully organized a Cardiology Clinic Camp on 20th June to provide specialized cardiac consultation for children. The camp was led by Dr. Kalyanraddi Chikkagoudar, Cardiologist, Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences and Research, Bengaluru, who offered expert evaluation and guidance for pediatric cardiac conditions.

During the morning session, a total of 11 patients attended the camp and received comprehensive consultations, clinical assessments, and individualized treatment recommendations. The initiative aimed to facilitate early diagnosis and timely management of congenital and acquired heart diseases in children, ensuring access to expert cardiac care.

The meeting reviewed the progress of research initiatives discussed during the previous PRERNI meeting held at PGI Chandigarh, while revised and newly proposed multicentric studies were presented by faculty from participating institutions. A total of 10 high-quality collaborative research projects were deliberated upon by the PRERNI Committee, highlighting the network’s commitment to advancing evidence-based pediatric emergency care. 

Faculty members representing BLDE (DU) Vijayapura, Al-Ameen Medical College Vijayapura, District Hospital Vijayapura, GIMS Gadag, Navodaya Medical College Raichur, SN Medical College Bagalkot, AIIMS Bibinagar, PGI Chandigarh, AIIMS Jodhpur, Mehta Children’s Hospital Chennai, ICH Chennai, and Bharati Vidyapeeth Sangli actively participated in the meeting. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks, reaffirming the institution’s commitment to fostering collaborative research, academic excellence, and innovation in pediatric healthcare.

The event also marked a significant milestone with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between BLDE (Deemed to be University) and PRERNI, strengthening future collaborations in pediatric research and academic exchange.
