The Centre of Excellence for Social Determinants of Health (SDH) at BLDE (Deemed to be University) is a pioneering initiative dedicated to understanding and addressing the social, economic, and environmental factors that impact community health. Rooted in the WHO’s definition of health as a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being, this Centre aims to bridge the gap between clinical care and the broader social conditions that influence health outcomes.
Poverty, lack of education, pollution, inadequate access to clean water and nutritious food — these are just a few of the challenges that contribute to poor health in communities. The Centre brings together physicians, researchers, health professionals, and students to collaboratively study, engage, and create solutions that target these root causes.
By integrating research, education, and community-based action, the Centre of Excellence for SDH aspires to promote equitable health and empower communities to thrive beyond the clinical setting.
We will strive to enable every individual to achieve their full health potential and not to be affected by any socially determined disadvantageous circumstance.
Our Departments mission is to measure the problem, expand our knowledge base of various social determinants that come in the way of individuals health in our study area.
